Louisville, Kentucky, is the largest city in the state and the 30th-most populous city in the United States. Founded George Rogers Clark and named after King Louis XVI of France, Louisville is one of the oldest cities west of the Appalachian Mountains.
Louisville is first and foremost connected with the most renowned prestigious horse race in the world, the Kentucky Derby. In fact, private jet charter to the Kentucky Derby is one of our most popular routes. Held at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May. The Derby is preceded by a two-week festival and also the most prestigious race for fillies, the Kentucky Oaks. Churchill Downs has also hosted the Breeders’ Cup in various years, now the richest horse race in North America with a $5 million purse, which in all other years takes place just southeast of Louisville in Lexington, KY. Chartering a jet to the Breeders’ Cup is thus quickly becoming a major route for us as well.
Economically, the city is diverse. Louisville is home to two major Ford plants, and the headquarters of General Electric. Its main airport is the site of UPS’s worldwide air hub, and three of Kentucky’s six Fortune 50 companies are located here. Other famous brands from Louisville are Kentucky Fried Chicken and Louisville Slugger baseball bats.
The city has also emerged as a major center for the health care and medical sciences industries. It has been central to advancements in heart and hand surgery, as well as cancer treatment. A thriving downtown medical research campus includes a new $88 million rehabilitation center and a health sciences research park, that in partnership with the University of Louisville, has lured nearly 70 top scientists and researchers. The city is also home to Humana, one of the nation’s largest health insurance companies.
Louisville is a major center of the American whiskey industry, with about one-third of all bourbon coming directly from Louisville. Similar to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail that links many central Kentucky towns, Louisville offers a similar “Urban Bourbon Trail” to tourists (and locals!), where people can stop at nearly 20 area bars and restaurants, all offering 50 or more labels of “America’s only native spirit.”
The city also has a bustling indie scene with numerous eclectic and urban chic neighborhoods. This is displayed in the rich culture at the heart of Louisville; one such event that shows this side of the city off is playing host to the largest annual Beatles Festival in the world, Abbey Road on the River, which occurs every over Memorial Day weekend. These are just some of the reasons why our clients charter a private jet Louisville.
